                SAVING A GENERATED 3D MODEL

After the automatic generation of a 3D model, the usual
practice is to modify it with the editing and refinement
tools provided. It is therefore often convenient to save
the resulting 3D model as a finished product or as one
subject to subsequent modification. There is provided two
ways of saving a generated 3D model. One is to make a PDB
file of its 3D coordinates and the other is to make a
molecular file, called a 3DM file, that contains all the
rendering and structure information required to reproduce it
in its exact state prior to its being saved. Both ways are
invoked via menu items of the 3D 'Utils' pulldown, the first
as the 'Make a PDB file' item and the second as the subitem
'Save as a 3DM file' of the '3DM Utils' item. The submenu
'3DM Utils' also contains four other items. These are
'Rename 3DM file', 'Replace 3DM file', 'Delete 3DM file' and
'Edit Model Comments' . They are particularly useful
utilities relative to generated 3D models which have been or
are to be saved as 3DM files. Thus, prior to saving a a
generated 3D model as a 3DM file, describing it with
suitable comments is invaluable for recalling what has been
done to it and what, if anything, is planned to be done at
another session. The comments which can be recorded are
limited to 8 60-column lines.
